SOUND LIKE A FRENCH NATIVE

PRONUNCIATION OF DE

Exactly like JE which becomes J' when follow by a verb starting with a vowel, DE follows the exact same pattern. If the following word starts with a vowel, DE becomes D'. But when we speak, DE becomes D' even when followed by a word starting with a consonant.

Let's see some examples :

Don't say

Elle mange un peu de pain tous les jours

She eats a bit of bread every day

But say

Elle mange un peu d'pain tous les jours

Don't say

Je ne mange jamais de viande

I never eat meat

But say

Je ne mange jamais d'viande

Don't say

Il n'y a pas de beurre

There is no butter

But say

Il n'y a pas d'beurre
